One Health is an integrated approach that seeks to sustainably balance the health of people, animals, and ecosystems. Food systems are central to this, influencing human nutrition, animal health, and the natural resources vital for biodiversity, livelihoods, and quality of life. A sustainable livestock sector is essential, one that equitably meets the increasing demand for food, creates economic opportunities for the most vulnerable while minimising environmental impacts. The sector needs to be supported by strong animal health systems which are capable to address risks, such as the increasing number of outbreaks of high-impact animal diseases and the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, at source while also adapting to the reality of climate change and the challenges posed by conflicts and forced displacements.
